Sea King Golden Jubilee
taking place at Shearwater
1st-2nd August 2013

Best regards to all of you from the Shearwater waterfront. The purpose of this e-mail is to introduce the Sea King Golden Jubilee taking place at Shearwater on the 1st-2nd August 2013.

Our website ( http://www.seaking50.ca ) is now up and running as is our Face Book site (Sea King Helicopter Retirement), and we wanted to let you all know this. There are places on the website where you may deposit information: stories, anecdotes, lies and other tales about your time with the Sea Kings.

One of the projects we are running for this anniversary is the gathering of information which will be collated and sorted and used as background material for the publication of a book. A story told by ourselves, for ourselves; a documentation of 50 glorious years of Sea King flying, something which is currently sadly lacking in our community. We hope you will all choose to take a look at these two sites and part with some of those stories that have been burning a hole in the back of your heads for all these years.

As we know that no list is valid beyond a few days, we'd also like to encourage you to spread the word amongst your colleagues about these dates. We have used a program for this mailing which takes the almost 1500 e-mail addresses that we know about, and sends a separate e-mail to everyone on our list. We will undoubtedly get bounce back on many of these, so let all your friends and acquaintances know about this and if they didn't get a message, please tell them we tried our hardest to gather an accurate list. However, you all know how hard this is to do. So either send us their addresses or get them to contact us either by a direct e-mail, a reply to this e-mail, or through our Face Book site and/or our website.

There is much more information about the events planned on the website, so we encourage you all to take a look. There are essentially three things going on that weekend which have all been carefully planned, and all three have de-conflicted from the other two events.

There is our Sea King Golden Jubilee which will run Thursday 1 August through until approx noon on Friday 2 August 2013;

These events dovetail quite nicely with the quadrennial Sea King Maintainers reunion which runs from noon Friday until noon Sunday;

And in the mix, while still in the planning stages there may be some sort of a CNAG get together under the auspices of CNAG Atlantic Chapter.

So, something for all this weekend and we'd love to spread the word, gather as much information as we can for our books and get our contact lists corrected to the extent that we can. The costs while not fully worked out will be minimum for a visit to the new Shearwater which you will all be astonished at, a parade in honour of the Sea King, a monster meet and greet in the new hangars, a memorial service to honour those who died in service to the nation while flying the Sea King and a laying up of a Sea King (or possibly 2) into the Shearwater Aviation Museum.

On behalf of the committee which is arranging the Sea King Golden Jubilee, please take a look at the new website and begin planning to come home to Shearwater to help us celebrate the Sea King’s 50 years of service to the nation.

Hope to see you in a couple of years for a good kick at the cat over the August long weekend in 2013.

Yours aye,
